Call for Symposia
The 16th International Palynological Congress (XVI IPC) and the 12th International Organisation of Palaeobotany Conference (XII IOPC) invite you to submit proposals for symposia for the conference, to be held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, from August 7–11, 2028.
We welcome symposium proposals covering the broad range of disciplines represented within the palaeobotanical and palynological communities. Topics may include, but are not limited to, palaeobotany, palynology, palaeoecology, palaeoclimatology, biostratigraphy, plant evolution, taxonomy, morphology, developmental biology, aerobiology, allergology, melissopalynology, forensic palynology, applications in archeology, and emerging analytical and computational approaches. Interdisciplinary symposia that bridge traditional research areas or highlight novel techniques and methodologies are particularly encouraged.
Symposium proposals will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee. To ensure a balanced and cohesive scientific program, the Committee may suggest modifications to proposals or recommend the merging of symposia with overlapping themes.
- Symposium proposals must be submitted in English.
- Title: 20-180 characters. (Up to 30 words)
- Description: Up to 200 words. The symposium proposal format is flexible. Your proposal should include a concise definition of the topic, provide context if applicable, explain why the subject is timely, relevant, and how it may fit across disciplines.
- Primary Chair and co-Chair(s): The Primary Chair will serve as the main point of contact. Up to three additional Co-Chairs may be included; all must consent to being listed at submission.
- Symposia may consist of oral presentations, poster presentations, or both. Oral presentations are intended to run 20 minutes including questions (15 minutes presentation time and 5 minutes for Q&A). In consultation with the symposium chairs, the Scientific Committee will do its best to accommodate each presenter’s preference for oral vs poster format, but reserves the right to convert some or all abstracts to poster presentations. Symposia Chair(s) may schedule a panel discussion with all presenters at the end of their symposium.
- You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt of your proposal. The Scientific Committee will begin reviewing proposals immediately upon submission. The submission deadline is April 30, 2027.
- Acceptance decisions will be emailed by July 2027.
- Because the program must be finalized when registration opens, chairs of accepted symposia must be prepared to register as soon as registration opens, and registration must be received by the Early Registration Deadline (March 31, 2028).
